casualtypapers replied to your post: casualtypapers answered your question: amouthygirl… nice. When I lived in Hawaii for 9 months I would go hang out once a week with this woman with MS and clean her house and stuff and then we’d smoke cigarettes (outside) & she would give me a deep tissue massage and talk about poetry, I miss her. That does sound like a nice relationship. %B] As...

She’s quadriplegic, so it entails all of the medical/physical care one might imagine, plus around the house stuff, taking care of her service dogs, lots of awesome cooking (she loves to...

“People know what they do; frequently they know why they do what they do; but...”
– Michel Foucault, Madness and Civilization (via lucjanlocke) One of my favorite Foucault quotes, and I think perhaps one of the most useful for understanding his ideas, because placed in metonymic juxtaposition with his larger body of thought, it suggests not what Foucault’s philosophy is, but...

Little Monsters, by David Alan Greenberg (1989)
Rating: **** Ghoulies II put me in a mood so I watched this next. Wow. What a disturbing film. I wish I had seen this as a kid. I had seen a glimpse of one semi-graphic scene when I was young, but I only recently figured out it was from this film. It’s not the special effects (which are quite good) that are disturbing, it’s the premise. TOTALLY DISTURBING. I think this could be...

Ghoulies II, by Albert band (1988)
Rating: *** When I used to stare at all the horror movies my parents wouldn’t let me rent as a kid, this was one of the ones I always wanted to see. What kid wouldn’t want to see this. Although I was kind of traumatized by the cover in a weird Freudian way for a while after seeing it… This was about as good as the first Ghoulies, but each was good in some ways, bad in others,...

Dead Heat, by Mark Goldblatt (1988)
Rating: **** This was a real find. I’d never heard of it before but took a chance and it was awesome. Great example of classic 80’s-horror-film-quality execution, and a really enjoyable narrative style. Also an interesting premise, and good special effects. Worth checking out if you like 80’s horror comedy.

dagseoul replied to your post: House 2: The Second Story, by Ethan Wiley (1987). Hausu is the best surrealistic horror comedy for the first 3/4 of the film. Completely worth the awful ending. The first quarter of the film is so incredibly good. I love it and watch it often. ^^^^^^^^

House 2: The Second Story, by Ethan Wiley (1987).
“It’s getting weirder!” hehehe Rating: ***1/2 This was pretty good, horror comedy, unlike the first and apparently later House films. One could make an interesting narratological reading of the house as a space for a very postmodern bricolage of tried and true narrative tropes, e.g., the cave man in the stoneage, the explorer in the mayan temple, the cowboy in wild west....

Creepshow 2, by Michael Gornick (1987).
Rating: ** Really pretty bad. And I usually really enjoy screen adaptations of King’s work. The first Creepshow  by Romero is worth watching, but this one was pretty porly executed. Worth passing over. Also, the first segment is racist as fuck.

Nightmares aka Stage Fright, by John D. Lamond...
Rating: * This was bad, like so bad I almost couldn’t finish it., and it’s gotta be really badly done for me to say that. It’s like watching the 70’s exploitation film equivalent to the average youtube video. Avoid like the plague.

Bless the Child, by Chuck Russell (2000)
Rating: *** This was okay. It’s interesting as an example of the larger trend in supernatural horror films around the time of its release, just before the turn of the last century: movies that often focused on or involved the catholic church in the vein of The Exorcist and developed apocalytic/messianic narratives, films like Stigmata and, more explicitly, End of Days. Pretty sure there...
